Your Visioneer unit is not compatible with Windows 7

Exactly what were you doing when it 'locked up'?

Did you attempt to perform a system restore?

Have you tried updating drivers?

Have you been using the unit with Windows 7 platform?

To rule out malware, reboot your computer and begin tapping F8 key.

Select Safe Mode with Networking

Download the following tool and run a full scan. Disable system restore to prevent re-infection of the system.

When finished, proceed to this link and again, run a full scan. ( I don't believe this is necessary, but it is precautionery.)

Re-enable System Restore and reboot Windows

You might try installing XP Mode and Virtual PC for Windows 7 which works with older applications

How to enable PS2 and USB in Bios

When attempting to scan, you get a message 'Error Code 10' or 'Scanner Optical Module Locked, Please Unlock the Scanner'.
Cause:
This is a default response from the scanner to ensure that the scanner head is not physically locked when it is attempting to initialize. Generally this error message, or physical sound, indicates that the scanner hardware needs attention. There are several possible causes of this issue, such as the scanner shipping lock not fully disengaging.
Note: The 4800USB, 5800 and 5820 scanners do not have a physical lock switch. DO NOT attempt to open the scanner and unlock the hardware. This may be either a hardware failure or software failure. Please see further troubleshooting steps below.
